      Data WA Collaboration and Networking

      With the support from the Data WA Champions Network, the Data WA collaboration group facilitates the coordination and availability of public sector data to support cross government planning and programs.

      The primary function of Data WA is to help the community, business and government discover public sector data. 

      The objective is to make it easier to find and share data for it to be more fully utilized for decision making and service delivery by government. 

      Key components to delivering the Data WA work program and implementing the open data policy are: 

      • Data WA portal – online mechanism for public sector data discovery and access 
      • Data – planned approach to source useful data, data management to support quality standards and formats
      • Data contributors – collaboration with public sector stakeholders, technical support, and advice
      • Data users – supporting events, hacks, and start-ups, promoting the data sharing culture, and education.

      DataWA Collaboration Group

      The Group provides strategic direction and practical application on matters relating to the Data WA portal, implementation of the open data policy and collaborative data sharing initiatives.  

      The Data WA collaboration group brings together the knowledge and skills from across the public sector, spatial and analytics fields to collectively undertake activities to deliver the group’s objectives. 

      Membership of the Data WA collaboration group comprises of representatives from public sector agencies where data is a key focus to deliver their services, agencies who produce and use data, and working groups delivering data sharing programs. Representation covers the broad spectrum of all types of data across the public sector, from analytics for health, social and human services and socio-economic statistics to location information used for various public sector activities like emergency management, environment, infrastructure, and land planning.

      DataWA Champions Network

      The Data WA Champions are a network of interested parties from public sector, academia and industry who are champions in their field of expertise relating to data initiatives, supports the culture of data sharing and who are involved in collaborative data projects.  

      Anyone can be part of the Data WA Champions network. It is open to everyone who are passionate about data.  

      This network of people with likeminded interests are helping to facilitate the culture of data sharing and help demystify the wide and diverse network of data sources out there.  The Data WA Champions network is one way we can help each other navigate the data network in WA and Australia.  Data Champions are active members of the Data WA community forum.
