The Capture WA Program is designed to reduce duplication and maximise sharing of government location data assets across the state of Western Australia.
Capture WA program overview
Planning, recording and acquiring location data through one channel ensures the best use of government resources. The Capture WA program is managed by Landgate with support from the WALIS community. Any Public Sector agency who requires location-based data can participate in the program.
Benefits of participating in the Capture WA program:
- improves cross government collaboration
- eliminates the need for individual contractual arrangements
- ensures Intellectual Property remains within the state
- panel offers a diverse range of pre-qualified suppliers
- data captured to industry standards.
For more information, or to promote awareness of the Capture WA program among colleagues, download the Capture WA brochure (PDF 1.2MB).
Capture WA program options
Any Western Australian state or local government organisation can request quotes for location-based data to be acquired through the capture program.
Self-funded or jointly funded data acquisition - we can assist with the technical requirements and will coordinate the formal quote and procurement process in consultation with agencies. Requests can be submitted any time.
Requests for informal quotes - Not sure what your capture will cost? This service can be used to support budget planning cycles and can be requested at any time.
Notification of independent captures – the Capture WA panel is not mandatory so some agencies may procure through other processes. We just ask that you let us know so opportunities to share the data with other agencies can be explored.
Capture Program Planning - some funds are available for the capture of critical location information assets where common needs across agencies can be identified as a priority.
Capture WA contract
A whole-of-State panel contract with a range of pre-qualified suppliers (PDF 153KB) are available. We provide a flexible range of options, faster procurement process and can assist with technical or product advice. Agencies can continue to manage their relationship directly with the supplier.
The Capture WA is advertised recurrently on the Tenders WA website. This provides new supplies the opportunity to be qualified under the panel contract, and current contractors the opportunity to apply for qualification in additional categories.
If you are a supplier and want to qualify for the Panel, please contact us via email@example.com for details.
Capture WA data
The Capture WA program offers a wide range of data categories such as geodetic surveying, vector, elevation and depth, imagery and innovative products and services. Examples of common data capture requests include:
- aerial photograph, online imagery services, satellite imagery
- LiDAR and bathymetry
- contours, digital elevation models
- 3D surveys

- any other type of spatial data capture.
Capture WA register
The Capture WA register is the mechanism to collect agency requests for location data acquisitions and record notifications of independent capture.
Anyone can view general information on the capture progress in the Register, however you would need a logon to access the Register to make a request for capture or note independent capture.
A video tutorial demonstrates how to raise a request in the register.
Capture WA working group
A member only WALIS working group for Capture WA plans and manages the capture program for the state. To access working group information and documents request access to the WALIS Member site or email firstname.lastname@example.org
